July…Sunshine….and the Nordstrom Sale
What a season of life the Sollies are in! In June, Tyler and I made a commitment to begin financially living like no one else, so that later in life we can live and give like no one else. We’re going through Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace University” and completely changing our thoughts and actions with money. In doing so, I am living as if the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (which began yesterday) does not exist. To some, this may not be a big deal, but when I was 18, my first credit card was from Nordstrom. My favorite college job was at Nordstrom, and I worked at the Yakima Nordstrom on it’s very last day being open. It just has a special place in my heart 🙂 However, our financial priorities do not include new designer clothing as we work through this season of life.
This morning when I woke up early to go running with a friend, I looked at Issaquah’s 5 day forecast, and was very tempted to take a picture of it and post it along with a snide remark about the lack of even 70 degree temperatures in July.
Having finished the run and driving home, soaking wet, feeling frustrated that “everyone else in the nation” gets to have summer, while we get 60 degree temperatures, I really felt impressed with the thought, “what are you thankful for?” Okay, so giving up Nordstrom, terrible summer weather, preparing to go back to work full-time with three little ones at home, and every other less than ideal situation, is not my favorite, but what am I thankful for?
God began to speak to my heart Luke 16:10
If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.
Wow, am I really being faithful in my attitude? I am blessed beyond measure with an amazing husband, three beautiful children, an incredible church that we get to serve at, even a run in the rain with a friend that I get to share life with every week. I choose to be thankful for all the blessings in my life. I choose to be faithful with this season of life.
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. – Psalm 19:14
